FSC and the Evolution of Chapel Hall

To commemorate Franklin Stage Company’s 25th year, FSC opens our 2021 season with a permanent exhibition tracing the journey of our historic building, Chapel Hall, from one of three campus buildings of the Delaware Literary institute to the home of Masonic Lodge #562 to the performance space of the Franklin Stage Company. Photographs of one of NY State’s architectural gems, its historic inhabitants, and production stills from FSC’s performance history comprise this fascinating installation. Join us for an opening reception on Saturday, July 3 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

About Chapel Hall

Chapel Hall is a magnificent example of Greek Revival architecture. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Franklin Village Historic District. Its preservation serves as a tribute, not only to the fine quality of the architectural and aesthetic traditions of pre-Civil War America, but also a testament to the high priority that education was given by the citizens of that time. FSC is proud to continue to serve as a space where community can continue to thrive in the Western Catskills.
Part of the Franklin Stage Company’s dual mission is to preserve and maintain our magnificent home. From its beginnings, FSC has steadily chosen restoration projects to equally address safety, comfort and historic preservation, while continuing to provide an open public space with its theatrical and visual arts presentations and partnerships with the Franklin Farmers’ Market and community at large.

This exhibit is funded by a generous grant from the Tri-M Foundation.

We are also grateful to the Franklin Railroad and Community Museum, the Franklin Historical Society, and the Delaware County Historical Association for generously opening their extensive archive to FSC in service of sharing this knowledge.
